HYROX & DEKA Training in Huntsville, AL

HYROX & Race Training

Race training at Fitness 300 prepares members for HYROX, DEKA and obstacle-course events by training the actual station movements and the transitions between them. We are not affiliated with any race series. We train the people who enter them. It sits on top of getting stronger under a bar and a 30 to 45 minute conditioning session.

The problem

What usually goes wrong

Athletes train the running and the stations separately, then find on race day that the problem is neither one. It is arriving at a sled push with your heart rate already at the ceiling, and having no idea what pace makes the next station survivable.

Our approach

How we do it here

We run the movements in sequence, under fatigue, against a clock: sled push and pull, farmers carry, row, ski, sandbag, burpee broad jump, wall balls, lunges. You learn your pacing as a number rather than a feeling, which is what separates a finish time you planned from one that happened to you.

What you get

What race training includes

Race training is not a separate programme. It runs inside group training, $247 per 4 weeks, one of every way to train at Fitness 300.

  • Sled push and pull on a dedicated turf lane
  • Farmers carries, sandbags and wall balls
  • Concept2 rowers and ski ergs for station work
  • Sessions run in sequence under fatigue, against a clock
  • Pacing worked out per athlete and written down

Questions

Race training in Huntsville, answered

No, and most people who do this work never sign up for an event. The station movements (sled, carry, row, lunge) are a complete strength and conditioning programme whether or not there is a race at the end of it. See what open gym includes if you would rather drill them on your own.

No. We are an independent strength and conditioning gym in Huntsville, and we train members who compete in those events. Any affiliation is claimed by the race series, not by us.

Twelve to sixteen weeks is a realistic runway if you already train two or three times a week. If you are starting from very little, give yourself six months and treat the first block as general strength and conditioning before touching the station work.
